reasons for settlement
There were many reasons for settlement in Georgia and one of them was because of the economy. The king wanted to make profits in Georgia and he thought that Georgia would be able to make the same amount of money as what South Carolina makes which is a lot of money. So he wanted to basically be able to double the amount of money he could get. So many settlers went to Georgia to plant Crops and especially Mulberry Trees to gather silkworms on the trees to turn them into silk which makes a lot of money. Another reason for settlement is charity. James Oglethorpe wanted to be able to get the people that didn't deserve to be in Debtors Prison out by bringing them to Georgia to pay off their debts. He wanted to this to happen partly because his friend Robert Castell had died in the prison. The last reason for settlement is defense and King George wanted Georgia to also act mainly as a buffer to protect or keep Spain from getting to South Carolina until reinforcements came.
